Watercolor Pet Portraits!

Welcome! Someone who loves you decided to give you the very personalized gift of having your beloved pet custom painted. Here’s a little bit about what you can expect and how the process works!

I use watercolor paints to create my paintings, and my style blends the line of impressionistic and realism. My goal is for you to look at your portrait on your wall and audibly go “awe!” every time you see it! We want to capture your pet in a way that showcases their personality.

By receiving this gift certificate, it means that your loved one purchased you a place in my 2024 commission list. I open just a few spots each year for custom orders, and I’m so excited that you have one. I work in the order of orders placed, and I may start work on yours at any point from January 1st to December 31st.

Here’s what I need from you to get started! Send me an email at beccagrowsstuff@gmail.com with the subject “2024 Pet Portrait (your pet’s name here AND your gift certificate number)”.

Example: “2024 Pet Portrait (Fluffy #1204).

Here we can exchange info about your pet, including the oh-so-important reference photos!

What Makes a Good Reference Photo?

This is your most important task! One great reference photo is better than 10 okay-ish ones. Here are a few examples of a great reference photo:

An in-focus, near to the camera subject helps tremendously, the subject facing the camera, and a pose that shows their personality/the way that you want to remember them!

What *doesn’t* make a good reference photo?

-out of focus subject, far away

-partially obstructed view of their body

-harsh indoor lighting, skewing their actual coloration

-a goofy pose that is adorable, but doesn’t translate well to a subject for a portrait 🙂

will say that tricky doesn’t necessarily mean impossible. I know sometimes we are working with a pet that has previously passed away, and we don’t have the option to go take a new photo. <3 I have ways to work around this, and you are always welcome to reach out we can and chat about a game plan and if it’s possible.

What can you paint?

I can paint any animal that you have, except for humans 😘

Over the years, I have painted for clients many many dogs, numerous cats, guinea pigs, prairie dogs, horses, cows, rabbits, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, llamas, alpacas…you name it! I’d love to do some reptiles and more birds and equines this next year.

I can include a background in your portrait if so desired (like if you really love that photo of your dog at the lake), it will just reflect in the cost of the portrait.

Again, you can reach out and we can chat if you have a vision in mind regarding special details!

I think that’s it from me!

Now go choose your favorite pet photo (or go on a photoshoot!) and send them my way via email with the subject line state above. I’ll be in touch with you as we begin working together.

Can’t wait!! 🙂
