Welcome, friends!

Hey there! I’m Becca and I grow stuff. (shocking!)

I’m all about not only living my best life, but helping you to achieve yours as well. Whether this be through gardening mentorship, being a steward of the environment or just being there for you in multiple capacities, my goal is to be a safe and welcoming place.

I’ve never been the greatest at talking about myself, but I suppose this is what an ‘About Me’ page is geared toward, huh?! Plus it is always nice to know the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ of the journey with which you follow along.

Fun Facts About Me!

I am a wife, a daughter, a zoologist, and the proud owner of 2 wonderful pooches.

I live in a little old town in Colorado that allows me to have a backyard homestead.

I am a lover of pie, equines and all things blue!

My current favorite TV show is The Good Place, but I’ll always have these shows on repeat throughout the year: F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Parks & Rec, The West Wing, and Cheers.

My favorite food is raspberry. My favorite meal is an utterly delicious Italian dish my husband learned how to cook in Orvieto, Italy.

I love animal behavior and have dedicated a lot of time to grow professionally in that field!

How about them apples?!

So, what brings us here?

If you are anything like me, gardening has a big place in your life.

It really wasn’t until a few years ago that I was bitten by the gardening bug. (The hypothetical one, not the real one-of-many that could be lurking around your actual garden). I grew up in Washington state, in the South-Eastern part of it. It resembled those scenes from Westerns where a tumbleweed rolls by and you don’t see anything green for miles.

That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but trust me – it was a dry place. But growing up on just over 2 acres allowed me to grow up in a setting that I look back on and dream of recreating someday. We had horses, chickens, pastures to roam, a large yard to play in…and a GIGANTIC garden. I’m talking rows and rows of raspberries, marionberries, grapes, and everything else you can imagine.

This was such a normal thing to me and honestly, I probably took it for granted being able to go out and pluck dozens of raspberries for a snack whenever I wanted. Because upon growing up, going out on my own, and waving goodbye as my childhood home was sold, I noticed a serious lack of greenery in my life. And a much faster pace at which things apparently needed to be done.

I was incredibly lucky to have grown up how I did.

Back in my junior year of high school, I got into a bad horseback riding accident. It was around that time that I started noticing I felt achy, like, always.

Fast forward a few years…

Ever since then, I’ve been dealing with chronic nerve, joint and muscle pain, as well as frequent migraines and headaches. In the words of the multiple doctors in my repertoire, ‘I have the joints of an 80 year old’. A few tests have confirmed that I have a rare genetic marker that is correlated with many autoimmune diseases, but none of the tests so far point to me which one.

Being in pain for years on end with no answer and some people legitimately telling me to ‘get over it’ put me into a pretty deep depression. I found it harder and harder to cope with big emotions, change, and especially any lack of control in my life. I kind of just felt like “What’s the point of feeling these emotions?”

This is where the garden came into play.

I not only garden to put food on our plates, but I garden to feed my soul. It is such a rewarding hobby. Not only does it keep me physically active, it keeps me researching and yearning to learn more. If I can’t find an answer, I can do a little science experiment of my own and figure it out. It allowed me to gain some control back in my life.

The more I learn and hear about the state our world is in, the more it draws me to the garden. Maybe I can’t reverse global conditions, but I can reduce at least our dependence on unhealthy agriculture and support sustainable permaculture farming practices.

Here’s where YOU come in.

Not only do I want to make a personal impact on our world, I want to personally invite you to join me. In doing so, we are creating a sustainable future, and I think that is pretty cool. It hurts my heart to not have hope for our world, you know?

Tucker hopes you’ll join us on our journey.

That being said, what sort of things are you here to learn about? I love teaching what I’m passionate about & have years of teaching others about wildlife conservation under my belt. Now I turn to sustainable gardening and in doing so, promoting a healthy state of mind.

Will you grow with me?

Thanks for visiting,

Becca
